Settings

Where Kestrel looks for jobs. Keys and passwords stay on this computer.

Warning: Not available in the demo.
You can look at every setting, but nothing here can be changed or connected.

Where to search

Turn a source off to stop searching it. Its jobs are hidden while it's off and come back when you turn it on. Jobs you've already applied to stay. Counts are the good jobs from each source: the ones that passed your filters, as in Analytics.

Credentials

Keys and passwords for the sources that need them. Open one to connect it; each takes a couple of minutes and is free.

Portfolio visits

Each application gets its own link to your portfolio, so the job shows whether the company opened it, which pages and for how long.

Used inJob list

SupabaseWhere the visits are saved. A free account is enough. Not connectedSet up

Each letter, CV and form gets its own portfolio link (yoursite/r/code). Your portfolio logs visits to that link: pages seen, time spent and country. No cookies and no personal data.

  1. Create a free project in Supabase with your personal account.
  2. In its SQL editor, run supabase/portfolio-visits.sql from the Kestrel folder.
  3. In Project Settings → API keys, copy the Project URL and the secret key and paste them below. The secret key stays on this computer.
  4. Give your portfolio the Project URL and the publishable key so it can log visits (it can only add rows, never read them).

Gmail

Kestrel checks your inbox every 5 minutes. When an email clearly belongs to an application, it updates the status and files the email in Gmail. Unclear emails stay in your inbox; add them with the extension.

GmailFiles your application emails through Google’s API. Free. Not connectedSet up
  1. Open Google Cloud with your Gmail account and create a project (any name, for example Kestrel).
  2. In APIs & Services → Library, find Gmail API and press Enable.
  3. In APIs & Services → OAuth consent screen, choose External, fill in the app name and your email, and add your own Gmail address under Test users.
  4. In APIs & Services → Credentials, create an OAuth client ID of type Web application with http://localhost:3030/api/gmail/callback as the authorised redirect URI.
  5. Copy the Client ID and Client secret, paste them below, save, then press Connect Gmail and allow Kestrel in Google’s window (it asks only for labels, never to send mail). In testing mode Google forgets the permission after seven days: press Reconnect when the panel says so.
GeminiDrafts interview preparation. Reads application emails only when Jev has no key: with one, Jev reads them. Free API key. Not connectedSet up
  1. Open Google AI Studio with your Google account and press Create API key (a Gemini app subscription is not needed; the free quota is plenty for a few emails an hour).
  2. Copy the key and paste it below. Only the subject and the start of each email leave this computer, with your name blanked, and each answer is kept so an email is never sent twice.
